GIANFORTE SUPPORTS DANGEROUS "RIGHT TO WORK" LEGISLATION AND LIES TO WORKERS
Gianforte has been caught lying about his support for "Right to Work" in Montana. While his campaign fundraises from the wealthy, promising them that he will take away labor rights and undermine safety and wages, he tells working people he's on their side. Gianforte is an out of touch millionaire shopping votes rather than doing what is right for Montana's workers by speaking up for hard earned labor rights.
RIGHT TO WORK IS WRONG
Unions provide democratic workplaces, higher pay, and safer jobs
Reduced wages
Dramatic decrease in pay for all sectors of the economy.
"Right to Work" would immediately result in pay cuts of $2,300 a year for Montana mine, manufacturing and construction workers, not counting cuts to benefits and retirement.
Construction workers on the Rulo Bridge contract highlight the clear and the sharp divide in pay between RTW states and strong union states like Montana. Nebraska workers receive $8.50/hour while Missouri workers receive $31/hour for the same work under safer conditions.
Makes work more dangerous
Every 1% reduction in union jobs as a result of "Right to Work" legislation leads to a 5% increase in workplace fatalities. In the mining industry, unionized mines have lower rates of traumatic injuries and fatalities. A study of mine safety data found that the presence of a union was responsible for a 14% to 32% drop in traumatic injuries, and a 29% to 84% drop in fatalities from 1993–2010.
